Rasputin in the White House “Evil that is successful is called
virtue”. Seneca. One possible answer is the system,
which because he is wealthy and powerful allows such a phenomena to
occur. That however is not the only reason. Lately among
intellectual circles there has circulated a second reason for the question
above. The second reason is not divulged by the controlled press but
is valid nevertheless. "From the nest of the eagle, in the East Wing
of the White House there is a man who truly runs the dirty political
tricks and worldwide disinformation operations", is a saying that, lately,
has been spread around intellectual circles. Some thought that it was Dick
Cheney. Others thought it referred to Condoleezza Rice, as she lives
in the White House, alone without a husband or children, dedicating her
life to serving Bush. There was also talk about Richard Perle, Paul
Wolfowitz; other members of the inner circle, the e’minence grise, were
cited. Once when someone with gall asked Colin
Powell, if it was he who the directed foreign politics of the United
States, he responded negatively. President Bush is keenly aware that he
is not intelligent enough to run the show. For this he has an
"oracle", someone he calls the "Boy Genius". This "Boy Genius" is
constantly at the side of Bush, instructing him on what to do and what to
say. His name is Karl Rove. Karl Rove is described as a child who
was very studious, an assiduous reader who wanted to be a politician when
he grew up. He studied in six different universities but never
graduated. While attending the universities he became the leader of
the national Republican students. At the age of 21 he worked with
Donald Segretti, known as the "genius of dirty politics". As a
heir to Segretti, he became very well known sought after in political
campaigns. When the Watergate scandal broke out his name was
mentioned. George W. Bush Sr., became interested
in Rove in 1972 when he was the leader of the Republican National
Committee. Since that time Rove has been part of the Bush
clan. The results were fabulous as the
American public saw in Bush a "prodigy son". From one day to the
other he became an exemplary husband and father. Everyone was
saddened by the behavior of his daughters, while at the same time he was
forgiven for his apparent ignorance of what was going on. Bush cried
in public while at the same time he was promoted as a gladiator ready to
protect the homeland. Rove keeps on pushing the strings as he hired,
Michael Gerson, a Christian Fundamentalist, an expert in Bible studies to
help in the Bush speeches. Let us not forget that the Bush speeches
where God is often mentioned and where prayer is often invoked is planned
and written by Rove. Those who are close to the White House
call Rove the, "co-president of the United States". Wherever he goes
he carries a special telephone in which he receives and sends
e-mails. He is everywhere. People in Washington say that Bush
is the product and Karl Rove is the salesman. That is why Bush
cannot live without his "Boy Genius". Rove has all the genius of
Rasputin, Machiavelli and *Montesinos all put into one. He is such a genius that he was able
to muster union support in the last presidential election by proposing
that the US place tariffs on imported steel. Rove is behind the Bush
proposal to grant amnesty to illegal Mexican immigrants - a promise
which hasn't been kept. In the last New York City governor's race he
convinced incumbent Governor Pataki to support a pullout of the marines
from Vieques, Puerto Rico - this to gain Hispanic votes in the
state. To prepare for the November elections, in light of, the
failures to capture Bin Laden in Afghanistan, the Enron scandal and other
corporations, Rove targeted Iraq, making Saddam Hussein the United States
number one enemy. He instructed the candidates on the type of themes
and slogans to be used, directing them to make patriotism and a reduction
of taxes their number one sales pitch. Rove knows that with the
press at his total disposition that Iraq and Saddam Hussein is more
saleable to the American public than is Afghanistan and Al Qaeda.
With this focus and with the tension that it creates, the economic
debacle that is occurring can be disguised. Of course they will
prolong this as much as possible, until the elections or until they can
come up with some other evil scheme. But this is a nation where people have
a tendency to get fed up rapidly and to change gears. It's getting
to the point where the people are fed up with the war on Iraq.
Meanwhile the democrats are looking to be a counterweight. Don't be
surprised if the same thing that happened to Rasputin and Montesinos,
happens to Rove: one day the marvelous dirty tricks are frozen in a river
or are found behind prison bars. * Montesinos: The brains behind
former Peruvian president Fujimore. Now serving time in jail for
money laundering, embezzlement, and political
favors. "Bush's Brain: How Karl Rove Made George W. Bush" by James Moore and Wayne Slater
In times of a Psychological War "As the president of the
planet announced his next crime in the name of God and democracy he shames
God and democracy. His pretext for this butchery offends our
intelligence. (Eduardo
Galeano, Uruguayan author: "To say no", 2003) The propaganda for war has
been so great as to get 60% of the US public to support the war, something
that contrasts highly with the rest of the world where 85% of the
population do not support a war. Nobody believes that Saddam Hussein
is an eminent danger to the US. It is specially after the reports by
Hans Blix, Chief Inspector of the UN in Iraq and Mohamed el Baradei, the
director of the Atomic Energy Agency of the UN, which states that Baghdad
does not have any nuclear weapons, nor do they posses any weapons of mass
destruction. After raising terrorism
alert to orange in the last few weeks, the terror of the American public
was so great that adhesive tape - used to seal windows - sold by Home
Depot and WalMart has been exhausted. At the same time bottled water
and milk supplies were exhausted. The worse of all this was the
response by Tom Ridge when he smiled and said, "It is good that these
products have been bought but the situation currently is not that
extreme". Recent economic reports
suggest that the US economy is worse off today than it was after the
attack of September 11. Alan Greenspan, the president of the Federal
Reserve has warned of worse things to come, citing for example that the US
is in the brink of inflation. The worse thing has been
the xenophobia this has caused against Hispanics. John Crudele of
the New York Post shamefully made racist comments when he said in his
column that, "Hispanics have a higher percentage of unemployment than
whites because they don't work as hard as they do". What this
"columnist" doesn't mention is that the Hispanics are a major contributor
to this economy and that we represent cheap labor for the work
force. That we help the economy is reflected in the fact that we
spend 500 billion dollars yearly. It must be added that we send 25
billion dollars a year to help our families in other countries. Everything these days is
being distorted, exaggerated, with the truth often hidden. Even the
UN has nauseating response to the possible US aggression against
Iraq. Before Colin Powell spoke in the Security Council, workers at
the UN removed an anti-war tapestry of the famous work by Picasso,
Guernica. This tapestry, which depicts the horror associated with
the German bombardments of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, was
replaced by a giant blue mantel. All of these war plans
against Iraq is nothing new. On January 23 of this year the Sunday
Times related how three members of the inner circle of Wolfowitz, Donald
Rumsfeld, Richard Perle y Paul Wolfowitz approached Bill Clinton's
National Security Advisor Samuel Berger, with the proposal of an invasion
of Iraq. As Clinton did not view Iraq as dangerous this initiative
was rejected. However six days after the attack on the World Trade
Center the dreams of the inner circle became a reality. Shortly
thereafter, Bush began to plan an attack on Iraq. To discuss the
distribution of Iraqi oil after the occupation he summoned White House
meetings that included officials from the Pentagon, the Department of
State, along with officials from corporations such as Halliburton,
Shlumberger, ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco and ConocoPhillips. According
to news sources (American Free Press - Feb. 24, 2003), the Pentagon has
estimated the deaths of thousands of US soldiers. According to this
report by the Pentagon it is likely that Iraq will defend itself with
biological weapons and as such to prevent contamination back home the US
soldiers will be cremated and buried in the desert. As an attack on Iraq affects the geo-economic interests of nations like France, Germany, Russia and China this will undoubtedly unleash a conflict of major proportion. Although the US believes that they will do nothing we must remember that these nations have oil contracts worth over 40 billion dollars and business relations dating back to 1920. In light of all of this it is doubtful that they will stand idly by and give the US a free hand. Women among the riders of the apocalypse According to statistics,
the majority of the victims of contemporary war are civilian, most of them
being women, children and the elderly; only 20% of the dead and the
wounded are military. This is ignored by such women as Condoleezza
Rice, PhD in Political Science, a virtuoso on the piano and a specialist
in black gold - as she was vice-president of Chevron Co. This
elegant woman with the power to play Beethoven and Mozart on the piano,
and favorite daughter of a religious minister, never hesitates in choosing
death - especially when it comes to Arabs. Speaking about the use of
tactical weapons, with complete serenity, which left Bush and members of
the inner circle with mouths wide open, she once said that, "Small nuclear
weapons should be used". But there are others who
are her equal or her better. On the other side of the world where
there are various leaders who water at the mouth thinking about the
possible financial gains from this war, there are women like the Foreign
Minister of Spain, Ana Palacio. Ms. Palacio ignoring the 3 million
that marched in Barcelona, Madrid and other cities in Spain made a rude
speech before the UN Security Council that irked people like Bush, Blair,
Berlusconi and Aznar. The speech made by this Spaniard made the
speeches made by these others sound like simple poems. Moments after
Colin Powell had stated that the last recommendation by Hans Blix that the
inspections should be given more time should be studied, Ana Palacio
commenced her speech with an impressive violence, shouting, "We should
once and for all end this farce". Asking for an immediate war she
left the diplomats flabbergasted. After finishing her speech she
went over to Powell and smilingly asked him, "What should I do now?"
To this Powell replied, "wait for
instructions". In her day Margaret
Thatcher had her way. Even though it is now known that she consumed
great quantities of Whiskey Bells - Sunday Times - during her time they
called her the Iron Lady. This is to say that this drunkard was the
one who gave the orders to kill the Argentinean soldiers after they
surrendered. Beside her alcoholism her friends tell us what she was
really all about. Let us not forget for example that her most
beloved friend and allied was the bloody dictator Augusto
Pinochet. These types of women who
have existed throughout history shame the work of women, which is
basically the preservation of life. If there are women who to defend
their class interests are on the side of war and death, there are women
who defend peace. Today men and women united, march for peace in
cities such as New York, Madrid, Paris, London, Rome and Quito. Some
women leaders oppose the war because they will kill their son, daughters
and husbands. Hundreds of men and women are marching from different
parts of the world to Iraq to be part of human shields. These people
are people who are willing to risk their lives in the name of
peace. The voices of the majority
of the world are being ignored by the powerful. Bush has declared
that he doesn't pay much attention to the marches because they don't have
anything to say. The day will come when those voices will make the
most powerful tremble. There have always been people like Bush who
made themselves masters of the world, only to fall under massive
protests. If we examine recent history we would see that it was the
marches against the Vietnam War that closed that shameful chapter in
American history. As the International
Women's Day approaches the American women along with the women of the
world are saying no to Bush's war. On the 8th of March thousands of
men and women will march on the White House to demand peace. Women
leaders which give pride to our gender, women like Alice Walker, Vandana
Shiva, Janeane Garofalo, Helen Caldicott, Barbara Ehrenreich, Rania Masri,
Michelle Shocked, theologian Hyun Kyung, Nobel Prize winner Jody Williams,
Cheri Honkala, Maxim Hong Kingston Musio, Terry Tempest Williams, Medea
Benjamin among many other courageous women will be present in this
historic march organized by United for Peace and Justice
(www.unitedforpeace.org). Hundreds of organizations made up by workers, women, and students are preparing marches against the war on March 3 to March 9 in different cities. These marches will hopefully make the Bush government and his forces of apocalypse listen and obey the wishes for peace of the majority. Will this
be the spark that ignites the forest? I have not made a mistake, as my
columns have for two years dealt for two years with the workings of
neo-liberalism, its structural crisis, criticizing its institutions for
not having the capacity to solve political as well as social-economic
problems, with the only function to perpetuate the functioning of the
system. However, my error was that I did not
consider the fast development of events. According to the prognostication
of the National Security Council of the United States, in about 2015 the
eruption of social violence would be caused by neo-liberal's
failure. The reality of what is happening in Venezuela for example,
has shown the prognostication to be wrong, as well as showing, that the
phenomenon is escaping the control of the
exploiters. The election of Toledo as a means of
avoiding social upheaval after the fall of the Fujimori-Montesinos cartel,
the fall of the Argentinean economy, the popular mobilization in Brazil to
elect Lula, Gutiérrez in Ecuador, the rebellion of the coca producing
farmers in Bolivia, the start of crisis in Chile, are signs that
Globalization has exhausted its possibilities and needs the help of
leftists, populists and indigenous people to keep it functioning in some
form and in the end to avoid, "eruption in the
Andes". What is happening in Venezuela is a
precursor of what will happen in all the nations of Latin America if there
is no change in the social-economic model. As this change is highly
improbable, it is important to look at the last events that have occurred
there. A few days ago, speaking to Spanish speaking newsmen during a
press conference at he UN, Chavez said, "what we are up against is a
fascist phenomena, today in Venezuela tomorrow in your own country.
Up to now the wealthy were always the ones to impose a president in Latin
America, the were the same ones who took them out when it was convenient
to do so...” All the newspapers are talking about
the desperation of the middle and upper class of Caracas. They tell
us how, as they fear that the poor will come down from their ghettos, the
well to do in most luxurious and wealthy sections of the city are arming
themselves. The newspaper Jornada of Mexico, relates how
neighborhoods have created Defense Committees which have armed themselves
to the teeth, adding that in the capital where there is a population of 4
millions there are 600 thousand registered and unregistered
firearms. FEDECAMARAS, the organizers of the failed coup against
Chavez have elaborated a "Contingency Plan" to deal with a possible
upheaval by the poor. It's plan calls for 3 types of alert: red,
orange and yellow alerts. Chavez supporters gave the red alert for
example on January 23 when there was the “March on Caracas”. That
morning, the neighborhoods of the well to do, was described as a "Gaza
strip of the Caribbean", with barbed wire, and torn down trees and old
cars as barricades. Instructions were posted on doors indicating
that people place mattresses on windows; use bags of freezing water as
weapons, to use boiling oil, and to record everything on video. The
fear has been so great on the part of the ruling class that psychologist
have been overwhelmed. At the same time meetings have been held to
identify those armed and to prevent shooting themselves in case of a
confrontation. Will the attack on Iraq as George W.
Bush seeks, take the US out of the economic crisis or will it be the
spark that will ignite the forest on fire? All the analysts speak
about the grave consequences the attack will bring on the world
economy. History will tell us who is correct. The Global Empire imposes it's doctrine "We should have a clear vision that our historical mission is to utilize political and military methods to maintain our superiority in the world and to dictate and reinforce world order". (Stephan Peter, Harvard Professor, 1990). The new doctrine of National Strategy
announced by President Bush represents one of the most important elements
in political US ideology in modern times; it follows the Monroe Doctrine
of 1823 and the Truman Doctrine in 1947. Like its predecessors this
new doctrine will try to control world order, all of course to the benefit
of the US. The Monroe Doctrine formulated by then
Secretary of State John Q. Adams, which proclaimed " the Americas for the
Americans" rejected European political involvement and expansion in this
hemisphere; as well as rejecting Russia's colony in Alaska. They did
all at their disposal to carry out the Monroe Doctrine, helping in wars of
independence, in the purchasing of vast territories, in the overthrow of
governments. Among the many intrigues and schemes they carried out,
they made sure that in the American continent no country remained
dominated by a European power. Ultimately, all of Latin America
became the backyard of the US. The Truman Doctrine, which followed
it, was formulated as a worldwide crusade against communism. It used
all the means at its disposal to combat communism. Some of the plans
of the doctrine included the Marshall Plan for Europe, the creation of the
economic tigers in Asia, and the making of Japan into a super power.
Other plans of this doctrine included the backing and setting up of US
imposed dictators: some that were born out of this were the Pinochets, the
Videlas, the Somozas, the Suhartos, the Mujadines later followed by
Talibans, "freedom fighters", the contras in Nicaragua, ect. This
doctrine also brought forth dirty wars and the assassinations of leaders
like Patrice Lumumba, Omar Torrijos, Salvador Allende, Oswaldo Hurtado;
not to mention the scores of lesser-known people - labor leaders for
example. Till this day the Monroe Doctrine is in full gear, as is
the example of the unconditional support and financing the US gave the
then President Fujimori and Vladimiro Montesinos to wipe out popular
resistance in
Peru. As the evil intents of the Truman
Doctrine were carried out, there were a few social events that as
always interrupt the plans of empires and the powerful; and as such
countries like Cuba, North Korea and China managed to remain free.
With the disappearance of the Socialist bloc the US found itself in a
vacuum, having no clear plan to where to lead the world. As Vice
President Dick Cheney stated before the Council of Foreign Relations last
February..."when the great enemy of the US quickly disappeared, we faced a
labyrinth, we did not know what to do, where to go, or how to direct our
foreign policy, as there were no clear cut danger we did not know what
would be the next step, but all of this changed on September 11.
There and then we finally knew what would be our next doctrine and who the
enemy would be". A few days ago the world realized what
future would be in store for it and the significance of the "Global
Imperialist Doctrine: voluntary and cooperative". It means that the
US has given itself, unilaterally, the right to preemptive strike, without
consulting any world organization - including the UN - when it's
political, economic or military interests are threatened by any country
organization or group. It signifies that the relative peace that the
planet enjoyed while the US was looking for a new adversary is over.
As Bush said, "either you're with us or against
us". This doctrine which was named " the
Guide to Military Planning" is not new as it was designed in the 90's, by
a group of advisors to former president Ronald Reagan, among them Dick
Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, Richard Perle, Wolfwitz, John
Bolton, William Kristol, Robert Kagan - all of them hawks of the US
Christian extreme right wing. According to the Bush Doctrine all of
the nations of the world are US neighbors and as such any outbreak of
discontent or insurgency affects it's interests. To impose the new
doctrine Bush has stated that his government would "raise military
spending to levels never seen before and to establish military bases
beyond those in Europe and Asia, wherever they may be needed... NATO
should change its policies and should participate in any US military
action around the world". This of course by logical
implications, means absolute control by the US of worldwide energy
resources. According to analysts, the king of Saudi Arabia is scared
because the end of his rule is at hand - just as it happened to the Shah
of Iran almost two decades ago - all ending with an invasion of his
country. Also included in this plan for the take over of world
resources are the countries with great reserves of oil, that is Iraq, Iran
Syria. In this new doctrine Latin America,
with strategic oil reserves is not overlooked; Venezuela, Colombia and
Mexico represent vital interests for the US, as Venezuela is the third,
Mexico is the fourth and Colombia is the seventh exporter of oil to the
US; with the latter having large reserves in zones controlled by Columbian
guerrillas - FARC. It must be added that against the FARC the US
will launch on all front attack using armies of countries surrounding
Venezuela. This is all planned for 2004 after the armies of these
countries have been trained. At the same time Bush made announced
his doctrine, Israel declared that if Iraq attacked or menaced it, it
would use all it's weapons at it's disposal, including nuclear weapons -
nuclear weapons that have never been inspected by the UN or other world
organization. This demonstrates to what extent Bush and its ally are
willing to go and what means he is willing to use. The use for
example of a new nuclear device developed by the Pentagon, "anti bunker
nuclear bombs", has been mentioned as a possible
choice. But if all is ready why then does the
US not attack Iraq? Firstly, there is not a clear international
consensus for the attack. Secondly, they need at least 90 days to
mobilize the troops. Thirdly the economic conditions do not permit
for an expenditure of 200 billion dollars, especially when the Arab
countries unlike the previous war against Iraq are unwilling to pay for
part of the expenses. The Bush doctrine will wait probably until
December to attack and to take out of power the government of Saddam
Hussein; and to accomplish what it is really after what is really
important: it's control of Iraq's oil reserves. "Big Brother" shows its face and its thousand eyes "First they came for the
communists, and as I was not one, I said nothing. Next they came for
the Social Democrats, and as I was not one, I remained silent. Next
they came for the union leaders, and as I was not a member of any union, I
said nothing. Later they returned for the Jews, but since I was not
one, I once again remained silent. Now they come for me, but now
there is no one to defend me". Pastor Niemoller,
1946 When in the beginning of 2002 Attorney
General John Ashcroft ordered the covering of some seminude statutes in
the hall of the Department of Justice no one understood that this was a
premonition of things to come. These statues that represented the
Spirit of Justice and the Majesty of Justice, were covered and then
removed, by Ashcroft, under the pretext that they were too
scandalous. Just as in the course of history barbarians and warriors
destroyed symbols and their meanings so are the symbols of democracy being
annihilated before a passive and inert
people. The silence of the people is not a
mere occurrence or can it be simply passed off as apathy, it is part of a
campaign expanding many years directed by the big boss, oriented towards
the restriction and the control of privacy in this nation, as well as
extending it to other nations. In these days the project is in full
swing. First came the "Patriot Acts", whose slogan is "You are
either with us or against us", and whose real objectives was to silence
any critics of government policies, by branding them as traitors in the
process. Next, the creation of 10 million informers by the formation
of the Terrorism and Prevention System, a system which was set up to
recruit people in the workplace as well as in the home. After this
came the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. This
department will have 22 agencies with personnel of 290 thousand scattered
all around the country. It took but a mere 48 hours for the Congress to
approve this agency and its laws. "In my 50 years in the Congress I have
never seen such monstrous laws approved in such a short time, without
adequate time to analyze and discuss them", lamented Senator Robert Byrd
of Virginia. "This is a nightmare out of a Orwell novel", referring
to the book The Big Brother. A book in which people live in a world
where every moment of a person's life is controlled by cameras and where
people are made to conform by an image of an eye. The strange thing
is that George Orwell wrote it as a satire of totalitarianism and the
communist system and now George W. Bush in this country is implementing
it. But this goes further, the Pentagon,
which is not to let itself fall behind, lose its power, has presented to
the world a project called Total Information Awareness. This
project, which is very controversial, nevertheless is covertly being
used. Admiral John Poindexter, who was tried for the Iran Contra
affair is the author and the promoter of this project. He is
currently pushing for the worldwide legalization of this project.
Controlling telephone systems and the internet, the aim of the project is
worldwide surveillance through the daily tracking of millions of bank
transactions, communications, purchases, travel, personal documents,
medical histories, work histories. The secret services of the US, as
well as, the secret service of Israel, the Mosad, will have instant access
to all of these records. But with this power abuses will prevail, as
this system will surely be used in universities, as it will be used
against students. A similar system was tried out in England but it
had to be reformed as their colleagues were also spying upon the people
who were doing the spying. Oddly enough, these laws which came to
be after the attacks on the Twin Tower and the Pentagon and were
implemented to fight the terrorism of Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, has not
curtailed them, as much as it has restricted individual rights of the
American public. Stranger still is that when people are at eased
videos of Bin Laden, traces of Anthrax appear, threats of war appear
linking Hussein with Bin Laden. It seems that Bin Laden has a
thousand faces because Israel claims that he is in Palestine. Of
course they use this to usurp more territory. I don't doubt some day
hearing about Bin Laden having lunch with Arafat - this of course would be
an excuse to liquidate him. In his book, Ted Rall the author of
"Afghanistan and Back", writes that the members of Al Qaeda are healthy
and well, living in the North of Iraq - the area occupied by the
Kurds. According to the author, the Kurds, which are mortal enemies
of Sadam Hussein, are being trained by Israelis in the US military to
eventually attack Hussein. Al Qaeda is working with two paramilitary
groups, the Islamic Revolutionary Supreme Council and the National
Congress of Iraq. These groups, which have been financed by the
United States since before the beginning of the Gulf War, would be the
first ones to fight in case of a war with Iraq. It is more important that the American
public awakens, fight for their rights and demand in the process the real
reasons behind the control and the abusive wars. History has
demonstrated that paranoia and mistrust does away with the collective
consciousness, and as such, destroys the creativity and the development of
a nation. Rome, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union are examples of
this. This nation will not benefit with laws
whose sole purposes are to dominate the world. Even people like
Henry Kissinger who never hesitated in promoting war and who was friends
of Pinochet, Suharto, Videla and other mass murderers of their people
frightened with what he sees, has commented, "The United States will not
be able to solve it's problems alone, at the end it will burn itself out
psychologically and physically.
In
2003 let us stop the ambitions of the Inner Circle "There was not a single place on
this planet in which the empire considered it's interests threatened or in
direct attack. If their interests were not considered in danger the
interests of it's allies where. If the empire did not have allies
they invented them. If fear propaganda did not succeed then a call
for national pride was made. The world was infested by diabolical
minds and it was the duty of the Empire to protect the
world". (Sociology of
Imperialism, Joseph Alois Schumpeter, 1919 - Roman
imperialism). In 2003, the majority of men dream of
a better world, a world guided by social justice and economic
security, where peace would reign. From Pope John the second to
rural teachers in the US are asking president Bush to cease it's threats
and military build up against Iraq, a war that could lead to a world
war. While men want peace the empire
insists on it's psychological fear campaign as to achieve it's objective
namely the control of the oil rich fields of the Middle East, as to aid
it's now dilapidated economy - which was more or less healthy under the
Clinton administration. A few days ago, the indescribable Donald
Rumsfeld made the threatening statement, "The world has never seen, not
even during World War II what the Pentagon is now planning. The air
attack will be so devastating that that the marines will without
resistance take Baghdad in 30 minutes". Also adding that, "If North
Korea insists in it's nuclear program, we will declare war against
them. We have the capabilities of waging several wars simultaneously
and winning them". Let's not forget that this all started
when Bush declared that it was all to protect us from the weapons of mass
destruction which Saddam Hussein possesses. The only thing is that,
according to the Blair report, up to this point the only thing that has
been shown is that he possesses 20 old Scud missiles with a striking
distance of 650 kilometers. The information given by the CIA before
congress on the arms of mass destruction of Iraq presented on the 7th of
October states that Iraq does not possess nuclear arms, nor does it
possess any missiles capable of reaching the US. There is nothing, no justification
whatsoever, to warrant the destruction of ancient Baghdad; specially when
Rumsfeld calculated the time of the taking of the capital, but failed to
give the possible casualty numbers of an attack. In reply to the
charges and statements made by the Secretary of State the International
Organization of Doctors against Nuclear War, estimated that 260 thousands
Iraqi civilians and military would perish. In case of nuclear war as
Bush has threatened when he announced that he would use tactical nuclear
bombs the estimate on the number of deaths would escalate to 4 millions,
that is to say a fourth of the population of Iraq would die. Why does George Bush and it's
generals: General Electric, General Dynamics, General Motors, with their
four sisters Exxon-Mobil, Chevron-Texaco, Shell and British Petroleum with
all of their power pushing day after day this attack? The answer as
already been told is Black Gold. It has been estimated that at the
end of this century the world oil supply will start to become
scarce. A major problem as the US oil reserves is only 2% while that
of the Middle East is 65% and is capable of supplying the oil needs of the
world. Among the most wanted preys of the empire is Iraq; as studies made
by the US Department of Energy has estimated that Iraq has an oil reserve
of 220 billion barrels, double that of Saudi Arabia. With all of
these riches, the US would assure itself of Black Gold until the year 2100
and of course the rest of the world would depend on
it. Without a doubt if Bush gets the
minimum of approval he will undertake this adventure. However, there
are certain countries, which are keenly aware of the consequences of the
US taking control of a major oil reserve and know that in the long run it
would be detrimental to them. For now, in Europe, only the leaders
of England, Israel, Spain, and Italy support an attack. They support
the war agenda as they think it will help them get out of the economic
crisis they face. The poor countries of the ex Socialist countries
like the Check Republic, Bulgaria, Rumania, Hungary and Poland which don't
have a place where to drop dead have promised, in case of an attack, to
send units consisting of hundreds of men. In the actual economic situation the
US faces, with thousands being laid off, with the worse Christmas sales in
nearly three decades, the stock market taking hits from time, financial
scandals, cutbacks in education, health, social security, loss of pension
funds which has reached 340 million dollars and with Latin American new
social awareness, it is highly doubtful that Bush can finance the
war. Military power cannot be achieved without economic power;
mistaken are those that think that a war will spark and stimulate the
economy, helping it to get out the crisis, for a war does not in general
mean a better economy and better standard of living; a war simply benefits
one sector of the economy: the military complex and the large US
corporations. A war does not better the living conditions of it's
people. With this crisis it is impossible to
realize the dream of Rumsfeld. His plans are to send hundreds of
jets and missiles to attack Iraq. But the problem is the costs
associated with such plan. For example, each stealth bomber needs a
hanger and maintenance, at a cost estimated to be about 5 million dollars
daily. The jet fuels needed by these planes are the most costly in
the world. In addition, unlike the last Gulf War, Saudi Arabia will
not be there to finance part of this war. They financed a vast part
of the last war, a war that has helped them into
bankruptcy. Speaking about the last war, a few
days ago, the president of the Veterans Association, Captain Joyce Riley
presented statistics which showed that 400 thousand of 697 thousand
military personnel who participated in the Gulf War suffer Gulf War
Syndrome, among them herself; adding that 40 thousand military men and
women of the Gulf War have died. She has revealed that veterans
involved in the war developed tumors, which expand very rapidly, as well
as getting Leukemia; the worse of all is that newly born of these families
are being born with deformities. According to Capt.. Riley nine out
of every 10 Gulf War veterans are ill. We should say no to Bush and his
secret inner circle, among them, Richard Perle, Elliot Abrahms, Dick
Cheney, Jeff Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz ( the brains behind the
scene), Condoleeza Rice, Francis Fukuyama, which have planned to be in
power until 2008 or longer; the war mongers which could care less that
their people want peace. For them, it does not matter that 800
American professors, along with 200 Israeli professors have stated that
the war against Iraq would be used by Israel as an excuse to expel more
Palestinian - something that would worsen the Middle East
situation. To most of the men and women of the world who dream of a better world, and who which to save this planet: only a mass popular rejection will slow down the generals and their oil rich sisters, and stop the inner circle of war mongers. Man set
foot on the moon and terror was globalized "All is fair in love and
war". The decade of the 70's started with
three personalities: Khrushchev, with his "peaceful coexistence", Kennedy,
with the "new frontiers", and pope John XXIII with a new catholic vision;
all this in a world going through rapid transformation and full of
contradictions; contradictions which had resulted in massive student
mobilizations and which had made the ideological structures of the Cold
War tremble; this was specially true in the US where it's democracy was
morally ill, as a result of the assassination of president Kennedy and
it's defeat in Vietnam. All this was to suddenly change when on July
20, 1969 the world learned that an American had landed on the moon.
The impact was so dramatic that up to this day we are living it's
effects. However, the irony of it all is that every day more and
more is coming into light that suggests that man never set foot on the
moon, that it was all a Hollywood spectacle. The USSR which had the lead at that
time in the space race, as it had launched the first satellite into space,
had placed the first man in orbit, etc., were shocked and demoralized
before the news. This event meant the immediate and spectacular
defeat of the USSR; and it can be said that from that moment on the fall
and the dissolution of this world power came to be. On July 20 the
most potent weapons used in the Cold War was unleashed: the use of the
mass media worldwide. Doubts on whether or not man ever set
foot on the moon is not new but it is creating an avalanche of
reaction. Recently, a poll revealed that 11% of people in the US
believed that it was a fraud staged by NASA. It has been said that
this agency realizing that the Russian space program was ahead, hired
movie director Stanley Kubrick - he had just filmed 2001 Space Odyssey -
to film the landing on the moon, and as such, perpetrate the biggest fraud
this world has seen. Recently, an analysis made by a US writer
Ralph Rene suggests that man never set foot on the moon and that the
photos of the Apollo mission were made in a studio set up by the
government in Mercury, Nevada. In his book he quotes a few people as
stating that the whole spectacle was filmed in Norton Air Force Base, near
San Bernardino; where also it is said are the world's biggest scenes
relating to the moon landing, all under strict security. There are
others that are certain that the filming was made in area 51 in Groom
Lake, Nevada; the base where the Pentagon tests it's experimental planes
and rockets. The same place, that in the past, a UFO had been seen
and is believed by some to be held by US
military. There are lingering doubts that NASA
has never answered. Among them questions posed by professional
photographer David Percy dealing with lighting. It is his assertion
that the Apollo photos and the photos of men on the moon could only have
been made in a studio. Percy declares that someone within informed
him that it was all a fraud, as NASA at that time did not have the
technology to send a man to the moon, nor did it have enough time to
develop it. At that time project Apollo was only 8 years old, and
shortly before the walk on the moon, distinguished British astronomer, Sir
Richard Wooley had stated that the mission was foolish and a waste of
money. In his book Rene asks, "Why was the
descent so perfect?" It was so perfect as not to leave any marks on
the surface. If NASA has failed in similar attempts on Mars, with
powerful computers of today, "How were they able to do it 33 years
ago?" The transmissions via satellite were impeccable, reaching all
corners of the world; while the photos were of superb quality.
Photographers still ask today, "What kind of film did they use that was
able to withstand the high temperatures found on the surface of the
moon?" The American was flag wavering, but how can this be possible
as there is no atmosphere, no oxygen or air on the moon? Why don't
stars appear in the background of the photos taken on the moon and in the
television images shown to the world? Why weren't constellations
visible in the lunar shots? Were these details that were overlooked
by Stanley Kubrick, who was a good filmmaker but not academically
wise? The biggest question is: if the US was
able to reach the moon, why wasn't it repeated? Since that day the
project was abandoned. If the government was talking about the
exploration, the colonization and the mining of moon resources, why did
they not return? It's like Columbus reaching the Americas and
deciding not to return. Before the growing skepticism and doubts,
NASA has awarded a 15 million dollar contract to space engineer James
Oberg of Houston, Texas to refute the doubts. As we have already been taken for a
ride, whether or not man ever reached the moon is not the major
issue. What was important at the time and is important at this time
is how the moon adventure gave the US overwhelming power.
Immediately following the moon endeavor the thinkers in the Pentagon
became keenly aware that the world would be controlled from space; and as
such the idea of Star Wars (copied from another movie) came to be; a plan
that would put to an end the "evil empire". The Soviet Union
believed it and as such the armament race was escalated to such a degree
as to lead the USSR into bankruptcy. When the Stealth bomber power of invisibility, which was at the core of US propaganda was discovered to be a fraud, as some Australian students using a simple computer had detected it, it was already too late for the USSR; the Socialist camp had fallen. That is why currently all those tales of new weapons, special forces, laser rays, Robocops, and the fabrication of war, all controlled disinformation propagated around the globe by the news media have the world subjugated in a "global terror"; with the masters ransacking not the riches of the moon but the riches of the earth. CHRONICLE OF A DECLARED WAR Those of us who thought that the war in Afghanistan was going to free Latin America for some time from the dangers of US geo-economic expansion were wrong. As the events develop, in which the peace talks between the government of President Pastrama and the FARC were mysteriously interrupted, it seems more evident that the US will intervene militarily. While the media at large accused the guerrillas for the failed negotiations, the FARC on the other hand, in the presence of governmental troop mobilizations, were denying it. Without waiting explicit orders 23 thousand troops and combat planes were ready to take back a 42 thousand square Km. area which was conceded, as a demilitarized zone, by Pastrama, as a precursor to peace talks. According to reports troops from the FARC were leaving the area so as to avoid a repeat of what happen 18 years ago when a territory conceded by the govt., a zone known as Casa Verde, was surprisingly bombed. A move that thus ended the peace talks at that time. All the preparations for war coincide with the final constructions of US military bases in El Salvador, Ecuador, and Aruba and Curacao. In case of a war these will serve to attack the guerillas in Colombia from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The airport in El Salvador, operated by US marine is completed, as is the base at Manta, El Salvador. The magazine Covert Action asserts that 34 army bases in Colombia, have US advisors, while in addition thousands of US special forces personnel are already stationed there. According to an Ecuadorian colonel, and ex-director of the School of army intelligence, Fausto Cobo, the US plan is to, "utilize Colombia to dominate totally the American continent, from Alaska to the Patagonia. The domination started with the dominion of Central America, Mexico and Panama, with the next step being South America". This plan did not start with Bill Clinton, or Bush jr. It was initiated by John Kennedy in the beginning of the 60's when he sent a military delegation to Colombia, headed by the General of Special Forces, William Yarborough, to combat social unrest and to attack communism. It was at this time when the General implemented, " a strategy of the criminalizing of social protest", to combat communist expansion. According to the military manual prepared by the General, " any individual that supports morally or physically any social protest should be considered a traitor to his country and should be treated accordingly". From this outlook sprung death squads, political murders, and the disappearance of political dissidents. As a response to all this, in 1964, the FARC was born, followed by the formation of the Army of National Liberation (ELN) the following year. These groups set up camp unknowingly in one of the zones most rich in petroleum and gas. Something that the US knows fully well and which goes to the heart of the matter. With the passing of time and with the emergence of drug trafficking in Colombia, the specialists in propaganda began to associate the drug trafficking with the guerrilla movements. Accusations that can be seen as false as the DEA testified on July 29 of last year, before the Justice Commission of the House of Representative that there was no proof that these organizations trafficked in drugs. It can be added that Senator Patrick Leahy declared that the fight against the guerrillas was being camouflaged as a fight against drugs. As Plan Colombia was initiated by the US in 1998, increasing dramatically the war and violence in that country, the FARC ordered a tax on all those wealthy who had more than a million dollars and declared that they had more than 60 battle fronts with 600 men each. The last revelations of the magazine Counter Punch, leaves us without hope that peace will soon be obtained for our brothers in that nation. In 1994 the ex-minister of energy of Colombia, Rodrigo Villamizar, awarded the US oil company, "The Harken Energy Co.", five contracts to explore for oil in an area which is occupied by the FARC and ELN. Something that you might not know is that the president of this Texas oil company when these contracts were awarded was none other than now President George W. Bush. This is the same company by the way, that in 1990, received more than 10 millions from Osama Bin Laden through his right hand man Khaled Ben Mafhuz. Among other surprises, is that one of the architects of the diabolical Plan Colombia is Rodrigo Villamizar, presidential campaign advisor to George W. Bush. And that it was he who asked the US president to elaborate a concrete plan against Colombia. On November 11 of last year Villamizar presented a document to Bush openly declaring that the chief objective of the US in Colombia is oil. Also declaring that the Colombian army will not be able to defeat the guerrilla and that the US should intervene militarily in that country. For his services Bush asked Villamizar to accept the position of Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs. According to Counter Punch, Villamizar did not accept because he had legal problems and was convicted of felony, being sentenced last December 4th in Bogotá to 4 years and 4 months in jail. Bush and Villamizar are friends since the 70's when they both studied in Texas. They met each other in a party and shortly thereafter with the influence of his father Bush Sr. - head of the CIA at that time - Villamizar was given the post of sub commissioner in the Public Utilities Commission of Texas. All has been prepared so as to look as if there is a consensus in Colombia for intervention. That is not so. There is not even a consensus in Latin America. In the last Conference of Armies of the Americas, held on the 19 of October in Manaoes, Brazil the military delegates refused the idea of an intervention. Even with this rejection the representative of the US vowed that the plan would go forward, " with or without approval of the military of Latin America". Also rejecting the plan was the European Parliament which on February 1, 2001 voted against intervention by a vote of 474 to 1. Taking all this into account, it is necessary that the Colombian people reject intervention. It is easy to start a war that in the long run will only serve the interests of the large US oil companies. However, it will be more difficult to end the war once it has started and to prevent the destruction, the bloodshed and the ruin economy that accompany it.
