The ungrateful prisoners of Guantánamo

JOAQUÍN RIVERY TUR

What better accommodations can one want when you have all the steel bars painted, when the cell is lovely, when you have a judicial statute that denies you an existence, when you have food fit for a king, when you can enjoy the Caribbean breeze in a territory freely given by the Cuban people?

All of these comforts are being enjoyed by more than 500 Muslims "guests" who have the best accommodations in the world, in the hotel Camp Delta, a hotel owned and operated by Washington and whose tourists are are the followers of Mohammed. That is the vision the Vice-President of the US Richard Cheney has of Camp Delta.

According to Cheney the prisoners in Guantanamo should not complain of their condition because they are fortunate of being in the tropics.  Are they being ungrateful in dispersing around the world the widespread use of torture in Guantanamo?  After all the Pentagon has only confirmed a "few cases of bad treatment" and the sacrilege of the faith caused by the flushing down the toilet of the Koran.

According to Cheney:  "They live in the tropics, well fed, with everything they want; even those that complain about the tortures are in excellent facilities and are well treated."

Now the hotel will be expanded by Halliburton, the same company that Cheney was once president of, and a company which he must own a ton of stock of.  Don't kid yourself into thinking that it was just a coincidence that this is the company which has mostly benefited from the invasion of Iraq...and in Guantanamo.

According to Cheney the prisoners who have denounced the tortures, the humiliation, the degrading treatment and the sacrilege done to the Koran are all ingrates.

I think the Vice-president - the one who always has a smirk on his face - has announced all of these prison benefits to see if any members of the resistance in Iraq and Afghanistan would enjoy the hospitality of Guantanamo and give themselves up to US troops; that is if they get there alive.
