The European Union maintains absolute silence in the case of the the Cuban-American terrorist Luis Posada Carriles

The European Union (EU) and the governments of the Group of 25 have maintained absolute silence on the case of Posada Carriles, a Cuban-American terrorist who had entered the US illegally and who - thanks to Washington - had been allowed to roam free in Florida for approximately a month.

Up to this moment neither has the EU, nor the governments of the so called Old Continent have said a word about Posada Carriles, the most wanted terrorist in the western hemisphere, self confessed criminal with numerous violent acts in Latin America, including the bombing of the Cuban civilian airliner of Cubana de Aviación in 1976; a terrorist attack that led to the deaths of 73 innocent civilians.

In the judgment of news people and political experts in Europe the conduct assumed by the member states of the EU does not correspond with Europe's position in the so called war on terrorism.

The same sources also agree that the major part of the European press has amply covered the events occurring in the US with respect to Posada Carriles, publishing the incessant complaints by Cuban and Venezuelan authorities as well as their plea that the self confessed killer be extradited to Venezuela to face legal proceedings for the 1976 bombing - as he back in 1985 escaped from a Venezuelan jail while the trial was proceeding.

In spite of all this, none of the leaders of the EU have made any declaration with respect to this case.  What this clearly demonstrates is the double standard the Old Continent applies to - what some analysts have called the worst plague that confronts humanity - terrorism.

Some experts point out that with it's silence Europe becomes an accomplice of Washington, a place where assassins like ex-CIA agent Posada Carriles are born and nurtured; later to be used against other countries.

The posture taken by the EU in this case demonstrate the double standard it uses with regard to Cuba.  On one hand you have the EU and the Group of 25 demanding so called "democratic changes" within Cuba - imposing sanctions -  while on the other hand remaining silent before the shameless case of Posada Carriles and others like it; cases which have caused the deaths of hundreds of Cubans.
