A Terrorist Transition

• Various individuals with ties to
terrorist activities against Cuba appear in the list of supporters
of the mercenary Osvaldo Paya as he tries to promote a committee
which hopes to launch another US sponsored plan; a plan which
hopes to turn Cuba to what it once was a neo-colony of the
US.
The Spanish news agency EFE goes out of it's
way to point out that the groups are connected through USAID;
however what it leaves out is that USAID has a long history of CIA
sponsored and directed subversive activities and most importantly
that some of the members of the committee are "prominent
leaders" in the contra-revolutionary mafia.
Among the individuals named is Spanish
resident Carlos Alberto Montaner, President of the Cuban Liberal
Union, a group whose entire membership can fit in a sofa.
Who is Carlos Montaner? In 1961 he was caught in Cuba
carrying explosives in the form of tobacco. Once released he
went to the US, joining the US army, later receiving training in
the infamous School of the Americas at
Fort Benning, Georgia. In the 60's he was a member of the
terrorist organization Cuban Representation in Exile. In
1973 he made it possible for the terrorist Juan
Felipe de la Cruz, to enter France. Terrorist Cruz later
died as a bomb he was planning to set off in the Cuban Embassy in
Paris killed him.
According to EFE Paya also has the support
of Joe Garcia, the executive director of the Cuban American
National Foundation (CANF). It is well known that the CANF,
since it was founded by ex-CIA agent Jorge Mas Canosa, financially
supported various terrorists, among them, Luis Posada Carriles, Guillermo Novo
Sampol and his brother Ignacio.
Jose Basulto, president of the
"Brothers to the Rescue", also backs Paya. It
should be noted that Basulto himself has confessed to being
involved in a number of terrorist acts against Cuba. It
should also be noted that as a CIA agent he infiltrated Santiago
de Cuba to carry out sabotage in prelude of the Bay of Pigs
invasion.
On August 24, 1962, thinking that the
President of Cuba Fidel Castro was in the Hotel Rosita he fired a
machine gun from a boat hitting the facility. On November
21, 1993 he infiltrated, along with a terrorist commando, the area
in Havana known as Santa Cruz del Norte. It must be added
that he has been involved in great number of subversive
operations, operations which included the introduction of high
caliber weapons and explosives into Cuba, and which included the
sabotage of electrical installations and the assassination of the
Cuban president.
EFE also points out that Ramon Saul
Hernandez, of the Democracy Movement has also joined the camp of
Paya. Saul's long history of terrorist activities against
Cuba began in the 70's when he joined the Cuban National
Liberation Front and Alpha 66, two groups which according to FBI
reports are terrorist in nature.
In 1978 he was a suspected in the disappearance
of two US nationals whose plane mysteriously disappeared as they
were flying to Cuba. He later headed the terrorist
organization Jovenes de la Estrella; a group which participated in
various terrorist activities in Miami. Among the terrorist
acts was the bombing of the International Airport in Miami on
October 17, 1975.
This organization later became part of the
Coordinator of United Revolutionary Organizations (CORU); an
organization headed by the terrorist *Orlando Bosch.
In 1979 the FBI singled out Saul as the number two man in the
organization. That same year he was pointed out as an
accomplice in the assassination of **Carlos Muñiz Varela in
Puerto Rico.
He participated in a plan to liberate Orestes Ruiz
Hernández, the assassin of Artagnán Díaz Díaz, a Cuban
technician working for the Cuban embassy, in Mérida,
México. He was the man in charge of the kidnapping of Fidel
Velásquez, the son of a prominent union leader in Mexico. A
plan whose objective was to swap the son of the union leader for
the assassin Orestes Ruiz Hernández. It should be added
that the plan failed.
It should also be noted that he was involved
in various plans to kidnap well known people in Florida, New York,
Venezuela and Mexico.
This new friend of Paya was also a member of
the terrorist organization Omega-7; a violent organization which
was in the forefront of assassinations and bombing attempts in the
80's. In 1986 he received a rather generous jail term of
four years, for having refused to appear before a grand jury who
was trying to investigate the terrorist activities of this
organization.
Paya also has the support of Javier de
Cespedes. Javier along with his friend Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat
are the heads of the Cuban Democratic Directory. It should
be pointed out that the later was a member of the Organization for
the Liberation of Cuba. An organization whose members
include Pedro Crispín Remón. The same Remon which
according to FBI files killed in broad daylight, the Cuban
diplomat Félix Rodríguez and who participated in the murder of
Cuban immigrant José Luis Negrín, in his New Jersey home before
his 12 year old son.
Surrounded by such people who knows where
the other initiative, put forward by mercenary Paya, may end up
at?
*Orlando Bosch - Miami based
terrorist whose bloody past include the bombing of a Cuban
airliner in 1976 which killed 73 people near the coast of
Barbados.
**Carlos Muñiz Varela - Was killed for promoting
travel from Cuba to Puerto Rico
