Frustration and hatred toward BY DEISY FRANCIS MEXIDOR —Granma
daily staff writer A calm reigns in Cuba, which is
upsetting a small group of extreme-right wing dinosaurs in the United
States and particularly in Miami. The badly named "transition"
for Cuba is a word that is not part of the vocabulary of Cubans over here
in the island. For us today’s news is of working more and better to
fulfill our commitment to Fidel. In the face of the frustrated hopes
against our nation, the treachery and the threats, we are rising up united
in a tireless battle. Innumerable messages wishing the
President a rapid recovery continue arriving in the country; their common
denominator is the desire for his good health and for him to take care of
himself, while there in that city in the south of Florida they are still
exacerbating hatred. Yesterday George W. Bush made
inadmissible statements in which he demonstrated his perennial ignorance.
He said that these are times of uncertainty here, and that the United
States is totally committed to backing desires for a democratic Cuba. What
uncertainty could he be referring to? That was one of the questions
addressed on last night’s Cuban television Roundtable that analyzed the
empire’s new aggressive plans against our people. The program referred to a meeting of
"five pillars who went to the White House"—read Cuban-American
Congress members— and who asked the National Security Council for more
broadcasting hours for Radio and TV Martí, with the objective of
destabilizing and provoking the Cuban nation. Details of this meeting have not been
made public. Could it be that they spoke of the Bush Plan secret paragraph
against Cuba? "Hopefully they’re still dreaming, hopefully it
won’t occur to them to embark on any new adventure, for here every Cuban
is a warrior," specialists affirmed. It was also noted that, for its part,
the Cuban American National Foundation (CANF) has urged civilian and
military uprisings on the island and are inviting the Cuban army to stage
a coup. "This is the clearest evidence that they don’t know
anything about our nation," program guests concluded. The Roundtable announced that certain
extreme-right representatives have tried to promote laws or bills to
accelerate the handover to internal mercenaries of the $80 million
proposed in the Bush Plan.
