For more than 34 months five Cubans are political prisoners of the empire. They suffer an injustice in a Miami jail. They are the victims of injustice handed out by the traditional enemies of Cuba, the extreme right wing of Miami and Washington. With fraud, pressure and manuevers they were able to get the jury to indict them for espionage, even though it was never proven and even though in the trial the accusers recognized that they had not gained any intlligence secrets nor were they responsible for the shooting down of the two planes.

It is a crime to convict 5 heroic persons who without ever resorting to violence, without injuring anyone, were carrying out the sacred duty of gathering information on Miami terrorist groups and their plans against Cuba.  They were treated inhumanely by a corrupt Miami court system, and are now confined in a Miami jail.

Almost a year after their arrest, cynically, the grave charge of murder conspiracy was leveled against them, relating them to the shooting down in February of 1996 of the two planes over international waters.  Planes under the command of Jose Basulto, a shadowy Miami figure that was involved in the Bay of Pigs invasion and a terrorist who in 1987 had machined gun a hotel on the coast of Cuba.  It can be added that for years Basulto and his band of ir pirates had violated Cuban airspace with full knowledge and tolerance of US authorities.

Even though the charges were ridiculed and proven not to be true by the defense attorneys and by the the accusers themselves, nevertheless a biased and often pressured jury found them guilty.  For bravely sending a statement to The People of the United States,  they were subjected to cowardly acts of reprisals and were confined to their cells.

Cuban funds arbitrarily frozen in the US were placed at the disposal of the Miami Cubanamerican terrorist groups that operate with total impunity from within the US. These funds were made available under the pretext of imdemnization due to the deaths of the pilots, but in reality are the responsibility of the US as having allowed ilegal incursion into Cuban airspace.  The five charged were implicated in this action, even though they had nothing to do with this incident.

When is the US government going to place on trial those responsible for aggression and terrorist acts which have caused the deaths of 3478 people and the permanent injuries to 2099 persons?

When will they pay for the crimes committed against our people and the harm they have done with over 42 years of bloody aggression and genocidal embargo?

These five Cubans have been, for over three years been locked up in a Miami jail, political prisoners whose crime was to defend their country against terrorist attacks by the Cuban "exiles".  Terrorist attacks which should be judged as crimes against humanity.

René González Sehwerert, Ramón Labañino Salazar, Fernando González Llort, Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez and Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, political prisoners of the empire, exemplary patriots, heroes to be admired who have not casuse any harm to anyone and who have sacrificed their lives to save their people from terrorist acts originating from the Cuban American "exile", and as such should be set free.
